How many estimates are required?

One! By law you are not required to obtain two or three estimates. Surprised? Don’t be. It’s your decision.

Which repair shop to choose?

It’s your choice! An estimate may vary anywhere from $5.00 to $1,000.00 in cost. However, the lower one may overlook important details. Ask whether the shop has a dedicated bench to hold today’s uni-body cars and bring them back into shape, precise measuring tools, a device for checking the alignment of all four wheels while the repairs are being done, and a mig welder – a low-heat torch that won’t destroy the high-strength steel. Ask about the repainting facilities. Basecoat/clearcoat finishes should be performed in special painting rooms where excess spray and dust can be forced away from the car. Ask if all the technicians have completed professional uni-body training programs. Seems like a lot of questions, doesn’t it? Just remember, your automobile is probably the second largest investment after your home. Therefore, you should choose the best repair facility available. An improperly repaired vehicle could cost you money and provide less safety for the occupants.

Who does your agent work for?

He works for you! Good insurance companies want you to receive quality repairs. Unfortunately, some may be more concerned about cost rather than quality. Exercise your right to choose. It’s a precious freedom you pay for.

Who authorizes repairs?

You do! It’s your automobile and you have full authority to authorize repairs – not your insurance company or its representatives.

How important is quality?

You decide! Returning today’s complex uni-body cars to pre-collision condition is no ordinary feat. They must be rebuilt to acceptable stress proportions as small as one millimeter (about the thickness of a dime) to operate safely. Trained technicians and costly equipment are a must! Many shops only do “cosmetic repair” which looks good but is not safe. They key word is “quality”…after all, your future safety and investment are at stake!
